Developed Not Generated is a 15-year collection of Polaroid photography by Maximillian Menacher.
Built primarily around portraits, the book follows three distinct periods of Max’s life and creative work—from his early twenties living and working in New York, to rediscovering Polaroid photography in Los Angeles, and finally returning to the format with a new perspective.
Alongside the photographs are personal stories, memories, and reflections collected throughout the years. Some images were carefully planned. Others came from accidents, late nights, road trips, unfamiliar cities, and moments that could never be recreated.
Every photograph was captured on real instant film—developed through chemistry, time, light, and chance. No prompts. No artificial generation. Just real people, real places, and physical photographs made in the moment.
Developed Not Generated is a personal archive, a love letter to Polaroids, and a reminder that imperfection is often what makes an image worth remembering.
